Ampelocalamus patellaris (Gamble) Stapleton (Dendrocalamus patellaris Gamble) a bamboo was earlier described by Gamble from a doubtful flowering specimen collected by G.Mann. This doubtful specimen was later identified as Dendrocalamus hamiltonii. The true A. patellaris recently flowered in Sikkim in December 2013. The bamboo has now been described for the first time on the basis of flowering material obtained from Sikkim.
